How can we help?
Set up Focus, understand its permissions, and fix the most common problems.
Getting started
- Install Focus
Download the APK on an Android 7.0+ phone and open it. Android may ask you to allow installs from your browser.
- Create your account
Sign in with Google, your phone number, or an email and password. Email sign-ups confirm with a link we send you.
- Tell Focus about you
Add your name, age range and goals, and Focus sets up a starting plan.
- Pick your distractions
Choose the apps to block. The free plan blocks up to 3 at a time.
- Start your first session
Choose a length, keep Strict mode on, and grant the permissions Focus asks for. Blocking starts right away.
Permissions
When does Focus ask for permissions?
When you start your first session, not during sign-up. Focus asks for notifications (on Android 13 and newer), then Usage access and Display over other apps, which are both required. Last, it offers to turn off battery optimisation for Focus; you can skip that step.
Why does Focus need Usage access?
It lets Focus see which app is open, so it can tell when you open one on your block list. The app name is checked against your list on your phone. Focus does not read what you do inside other apps, what you type, or your messages.
Why does Focus need Display over other apps?
It lets Focus show its block screen on top of a blocked app.
Why is there always a “Focus Protection Active” notification?
Android requires a visible notification for apps that keep running in the background. It shows while blocking is on, so you always know Focus is protecting you.
Should I turn off battery optimisation for Focus?
We recommend it. Some phones stop background apps to save battery, especially overnight, which can pause blocking. Allowing Focus to run without battery limits keeps it reliable.
Sessions & blocking
Can I end a session early?
Not in Strict mode, which is on by default. The session runs until the timer ends.
With Strict mode off, you can end early only by solving a 30-second puzzle. Leaving early costs 50 XP and resets your streak.
What stays available in Phone-only mode?
Phone-only blocks every app except the essentials: the phone dialer and calls, emergency calls, the camera, and payment apps. Phone-only sessions are always strict.
Messaging apps are blocked too. If you need one, add it to your allowed apps before you start; you cannot change the list during the session.
What happens when I open a blocked app?
Focus covers it with the block screen. Tap Go home (or press Back) to leave, or Brain training to jump into the games.
What is the difference between schedules and block rules?
- Focus schedules start full focus sessions on their own at the times you set, with an optional reminder 5 minutes before.
- Block rules keep a single app blocked during set hours on the days you choose, without starting a session.
Can I block more apps during a session?
Yes. Use Block another app during a normal session to add an app for a set time, from 30 minutes to 12 hours, or until everything unlocks.
How many apps can I block?
Up to 3 at a time on the free plan, or 3 more for a day by watching a video or spending XP. Focus Pro removes the limit. See Free and Pro.
Troubleshooting
I got a “Blocking is paused” notification
A permission Focus needs was turned off. Tap Turn on in the notification, or open Focus and tap Fix on the red banner, then switch the permission back on.
Blocking stops after a while or overnight
Your phone is probably stopping Focus to save battery. Open Android Settings, find Focus under Apps, and set its battery use to unrestricted (the wording differs between phone makers).
Some phones also have their own autostart or background-app settings. If yours does, allow Focus there too.
Does blocking survive a restart?
Yes. After your phone restarts or Focus updates, blocking turns back on by itself if it is still needed and the permissions are on. Scheduled sessions are set up again too.
A blocked app keeps playing in a floating window
Focus pauses the app's sound and shows a notification. Close the floating window to stop the video.
I can't install the APK
Focus needs Android 7.0 or newer. When Android asks, allow your browser or file manager to install unknown apps, then open the downloaded file again.
Account & billing
Do I need an account?
Yes. Sign in with Google, your phone number (we text you a code), or an email and password. Your account is what syncs your progress.
I didn't get the verification email
Check your spam folder, then tap Resend email on the verification screen. Still nothing? Email support@arrowway.online.
I forgot my password
Tap Forgot password? on the sign-in screen and we will email you a link to set a new one.
How do I cancel or change Focus Pro?
Pro is billed through Google Play. Open Google Play subscriptions to change or cancel it. Lifetime is a one-time purchase with nothing to cancel.
I bought Pro but it isn't active
Open the Pro screen in Focus and tap Restore. Make sure you are signed in to the same Google account you paid with.
How do I delete my account?
In Focus, open Settings and tap Delete account. This removes your account, history, streak, schedules, rules and profile, and clears your notes on the phone. If you can't open the app, follow the steps on our account deletion page.
Deleting your account does not cancel a Pro subscription; cancel it in Google Play first.
Why can't I log out?
Logging out is turned off while a session is running, so it can't be used as a way around blocking. Try again once the session ends.
